Phil Mullen

Phil Mullen

Philip Mullen

( March 29, 1955 - December 9, 2025 )

Philip “Phil” Joseph Mullen Jr., 70, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, with his family by his side.

Phil was the beloved husband of Rosemarie A. (D’Elia) Mullen, with whom he shared more than 41 years filled with laughter, love, and countless beautiful moments. He was a loving and proud father to PJ and Alex, Matt and Alyssa, and Dan and Alyssa. He was a cherished brother to his Mullen siblings, Regina and Ralph, Peter and Kate, Deirdre, and John and Lynn, and to his D’Elia siblings, Tony and Linda, and Barb and Mike. Known affectionately as “Poppy”, Phil treasured every moment with his grandchildren, Matthew, Amelia, Michael, Anthony, and Danny, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Born on March 29, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA, Phil was the son of the late Philip and the late Deirdre (McGarrity) Mullen. He attended Maternity BVM in Northeast Philadelphia, graduated from Holy Ghost Prep, and earned his degree in Accounting from Drexel University (followed by a brief stint at Harvard). Phil was a 1978 Sigma Pi graduate.

Phil’s famously strong work ethic helped him achieve his CPA and build a remarkable career marked by professional success and lifelong friendships. Over nearly 50 years in finance and accounting, including more than 30 years with Shared Medical Solutions (SMS), he built a reputation for dedication and integrity. He concluded his distinguished career working alongside his brother John at Mullen Coughlin LLC, where he was instrumental in the founding and growth of the firm.

After decades of hard work, Phil relished the opportunity to explore the world. He embraced every new adventure and traveled to numerous countries with family and friends, creating memories he cherished deeply. Proud of his Irish heritage, with roots in County Tyrone, he made several meaningful trips to Ireland to celebrate his family lineage.

Phil and Ro built a strong foundation together and made their home in Media for more than 40 years. Deeply committed to his community, he spent many years on the board and as a coach at both Media Little League and the Media Youth Center. He also dedicated several years to St. Mary Magdalen School, where he practiced his faith, was one of the founding members of The Men's Club, served on the parish council & finance committee and sent all three of his children from kindergarten through eighth grade.

True to his Philadelphia roots, Phil loved his local sports teams and the Jersey Shore. As a long-time season ticket holder for both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies, he created countless memories attending games with his family. One of his greatest joys was celebrating both Eagles Super Bowl victories with his wife and three sons. His happiest place was Sea Isle City. Whether reading a book by the ocean on 32nd Street or enjoying a bourbon on the deck, time in Sea Isle with his family brought him pure joy.

Among his friends, Phil was affectionately known as “The Commish” by a group called the RATS for his meticulous planning of their annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach or Florida. He looked forward to that week every spring, filled with food, drink, stories, and what he described as mediocre golf. For the past five years, he also played Pickleball nearly every Wednesday at Llanerch Country Club, where he enjoyed two hours of friendly competition followed by a nightcap and plenty of laughter with good friends.

The holidays were Phil’s favorite time of year. He spent his weekends celebrating the build-up to Christmas with his family and his weekdays making sure the house was perfectly decorated for his kids, grandkids, and any passerby. He was often called “Sparky” because of his lavish Christmas light displays. Fittingly, the day after his passing, the final decoration he had ordered arrived at the front door: a 10-foot-tall Santa for the kids and visitors to enjoy.

Above all else, Phil devoted his life to his family. He brought a constant, uplifting spirit to the lives of his immediate and extended family. He supported his children wholeheartedly and took immense pride in their accomplishments. His favorite role in life was “Poppy”. Whether at the pool, the beach, a game, or a school event, nothing made him happier than time spent with his grandchildren.

Phil was an inspiration, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hagan Rigby Harting and Hagan Funeral Home in Media, PA. A second viewing will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Media, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM.

Interment will take place at Nativity BVM Cemetery, just up the road from the home where Phil raised his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Phil’s memory to St. Mary Magdalen Parish (2400 N Providence Rd, Media, PA 19063 in Media, Pennsylvania) or ACCESS Chester Community Center (701 Booth Street, Chester, PA 19013).

Rick Menne

Edward F. "Rick" Menne

October 22, 1951 ~ November 8, 2025 (age 74)

Edward "Rick" Menne Obituary

Edward “Rick” Menne, of Middleburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Born on October 22, 1951, in Bethlehem, PA, Rick was the son of Edward and Arlene Menne.

Rick graduated from Liberty High School in 1969 and attended college at Drexel University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in social services.  After a brief time working in a juvenile detention center as a social worker, Rick changed career paths to follow his interest in woodworking and construction.

In 1975, along with several friends, Rick purchased a farm in the Middleburg area, eventually moving to the area full-time in pursuit of a quiet lifestyle.  Rick married Beverly in 1983 and welcomed his only child, Sara, soon after.  The family resided in a small cabin while Rick designed and built the family home.

Rick held a variety of jobs over the years: bartender and cook at the Scarlet “D”, various construction jobs, making and installing countertops for Lewisburg Builders, and crafting and selling fine furniture to customers throughout the country. Rick was most proud of his efforts to supply insect boxes to the entomology department at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Ever the perfectionist, Rick was known for his fine quality of work and attention to detail.

Rick loved music and attended many music festivals and events over the years. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed hosting dinner parties. Guests were lucky if he decided to serve his excellent crab cakes. He was an avid sports fan and was lucky to see the Eagles win two Super Bowls. Rick enjoyed Friday poker games with The Poker Boyz, never winning much money, but always appreciating the comradery. Most importantly, Rick was a steward of his land, spearheading the creation of two pollinator fields to support the bee and butterfly population.

Rick was sometimes a man of few words, but he cared deeply for his wife and daughter. He was a steady, dependable presence and could be counted on for advice and support.  Rick was genuinely interested in his grandchildren’s activities and appreciated hearing their ideas and opinions.  In addition to his immediate family, Rick was close to his sisters, Dianne and Patricia, who affectionally referred to him as “The Golden Boy”. Rick also had many close friends, some relationships lasting over 50 years. Keeping in touch with these lifelong friends was very important to Rick.

In addition to his wife, Beverly, Rick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Erik Bolton of Lewisburg, grandchildren, Emma and Jack Bolton, his sister Dianne and brother-in-law Donald Scheck of Bethlehem, and sister Patricia and brother-in-law Donald Soltysiak of Hellertown. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and close family friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Blake, and brother-in-law, Jamie Blake.

Family and friends are invited to a remembrance service at Laurel Lodge, 177 Camp Laurel Road, Mifflinburg, on December 13th, at 11:30, followed by a meal. Casual attire is requested.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: DIG Furniture Bank, 14 Elm St, Milton, PA 17847.

Arrangements are by Hummel Funeral Home, Middleburg.
